In an effort to help increase awareness about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and sudden cardiac arrest, the American Heart Association provided the below description to the film’s producers.

According to the American Heart Association, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) occurs if heart muscle cells enlarge and cause the walls of the ventricles (usually the left ventricle) to thicken.

Usually inherited, HCM is caused by a change in some of the genes in heart muscle proteins. The condition is a common cause of sudden cardiac arrest in young people, including young athletes, and can affect people of any age.

Symptoms can include chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath or fainting.
